Where your data lives

Your journal lives on your iPhone, iPad or Mac. There is no account and no Traveled server. We never see your travels. A few requests do leave your device, all of them to Apple, and they are listed below.

Where your journal is stored

Travels, planned travels, cities, notes and photo captions are stored in a database inside the app, on the device you use. Photos are copied into the app when you add them and stored next to that database.

Traveled does not ask for access to your photo library. You pick photos in Apple’s photo picker, and the app only receives the ones you choose. When a photo is copied in, its location and camera details are removed. Only the date it was taken is kept.

Traveled adds no encryption of its own. The journal is protected the way your device protects every app’s files: on iPhone and iPad by the system’s encryption once you set a passcode, on a Mac by FileVault if it is turned on.

What leaves your device

WhatSent toWhy
Map tiles for the area on screenApple (MapKit)To draw Atlas on iPhone and iPad, and every map on Mac
The city name you type, with its countryApple (MapKit)To find the city when you add it to a travel
A check of your purchase and the Pro priceApple (App Store)When the app starts, to know whether Traveled Pro is unlocked
Your purchaseApple (App Store)Only when you buy or restore Traveled Pro

Nothing else. Visits and Years on iPhone and iPad are drawn from map data inside the app and need no network. Apart from the city name you type, nothing from your journal is part of these requests.

Traveled has no analytics, no advertising and no crash reporter of its own, and no third-party code that sends data. Apple may share crash reports with us if you allow it under Settings, Privacy & Security, Analytics & Improvements. That is Apple’s setting, and your choice.

No account, still on all your devices

Traveled Pro is one purchase tied to your Apple Account, not to an account with us. It unlocks on every iPhone, iPad and Mac signed in with that Apple Account. If it does not show up, use Restore Purchase. The app stores one thing about it: whether Pro is unlocked.

Your journal does not sync. Traveled does not use iCloud for the journal, so each device keeps its own. To bring a journal to another device, export it and import it there.

Backups and moving to a new device

Your journal and photos are part of your device’s regular backup: iCloud Backup or a computer backup on iPhone and iPad, Time Machine on a Mac. Traveled leaves nothing out on purpose, except small preview images it can rebuild.

With Traveled Pro you can export the whole journal to a .traveled file, with or without photos. On iPhone and iPad you share it like any file, to Files, iCloud Drive or AirDrop. On a Mac you save it where you like. Traveled itself uploads it nowhere.

Importing a .traveled file is free, and you choose how. Merge adds new travels and updates existing ones. It deletes nothing. Replace everything deletes the journal on this device and puts the file in its place. Traveled offers to export a copy first.

What Traveled does not protect against

This site has no accounts and uses no cookies. Vercel Web Analytics counts page views without cookies and without a profile of you. Our host, Vercel, logs ordinary technical requests, as any web host does.

If you switch the map at the top of the home page to Atlas, your browser loads that map from OpenFreeMap, which sees your IP address like any server you connect to. The countries you tap on that map stay in your browser.
